The journalist training on business advocacy reporting was targeted to business/economic/agriculture reporters in Bhojpur, Dhankuta, Ilam, Panchthar, Sankhuwasabha, Taplejung, Terhathumand other districts in Eastern Region and Nepal. The training was organized by Society of Economic Journalists-Nepal with inputs from ILO, and accommodated over 35 participating journalists from the aforementioned locations.

The 2 days(29 Feb-1 March 2016) journalist training was organized to create better understanding among participants about economic issues and different aspects of economy; improve participating journalists’ reporting skills, ultimately contributing to business advocacy for right and good corporate governance; promote Ginger, Cardamom, Orthodox tea and Dairy Products through service provider’s members, constituents and participating journalists; create better understanding among journalists about the production, distribution and entire value chain of four products; update participating journalists about the various facets in the value chain of the products that have high commercial and export value; and, incorporate inputs on identifying business stories, skills to mobilize sources, pertinent economic issues, generating better story ideas as well as art of presenting economic stories in comprehensive way so as to aware related stakeholders.

The trained journalist will act as a change agent to advocate issues of public and private sector through media while also building the capacity of the local private sector institutions to engage the public sector on constructive dialogue.
